Mastering Advanced Studio Lighting
November 4, 2024

Are you passionate about photography and eager to enhance your skills in studio photography? Look no further! Our exclusive Studio Photography Training Day is designed to take your photography to the next level and unleash your creativity in a professional studio environment with award winning photographer Paul Wilkinson

The portrait photography studio is one of the most creative and versatile places to create images: from family portraits and intimate fine art to artistic headshots and personal branding.

But beyond the essentials of studio photography lighting, it is the perfect place to let your creativity loose!  In this intensive advanced studio lighting workshop, you will play, create, invent and practice techniques to push your studio lighting to create images truly unique to you.

This workshop is for those looking to add a touch of class and something different to their studio portrait lighting.  Each of our workshops is adjusted to suit those attending, and with a small number of delegates, we can pick and choose from the following:

  • Studio lighting modifiers and their impact on an image
  • Lighting the face and figure
  • Single-light portraiture (the simplest and most effective of all lighting patterns)
  • Multiple-light portraiture, from two, three and four-light configurations
  • Use reflectors and subtractors to add class to your images
  • Using hard light for dramatic portraits
  • Using soft light for beauty portraits
  • Using gels and gobos for added theatre
  • Posing and guiding your subject to get the best out of them
  • Lunch will be provided (along with limitless tea and coffee!)

The day’s objective is for everyone to leave buzzing with ideas and new techniques for creating stunning studio portraits.

The number of attendees is strictly limited to six in this workshop, ensuring everyone plenty of hands-on time with the studio, the lights and the models.  This is a hands-on day rather than a desk-based masterclass. Attendees are expected to understand how to set their cameras for studio strobes.  If you’re uncertain if the workshop is for you, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us and we will happily talk you through it.

Each attendee will be invited to our exclusive (and private) Facebook Group, where we post all of the technical notes, behind-the-scenes insights, top tips and early bookings for our future workshops.

Some Nice Words From Previous Advanced Lighting Workshops

The workshop was delivered in a professional and engaging style, with the right blend of demonstrations, Q&A and feedback, I would recommend a workshop with Paul without hesitation

Fantastic workshop, thank you Paul and Sarah!

The workshop was great fun, really interesting and very informative. Looking forward to attending others!

Warm, welcoming and friendly. Willingness to adapt to student needs.

Paul and Sarah’s workshops are always great fun and hugely informative – whatever the topic you’ll always leave with some great ideas to put into practice. (Do we get a prize for the full set? :))

I found it extremely inspiring and left with such a buzz! I was so excited to practise what we’d learned and definitely feel more confident in my abilities. Not just from the techniques we learned, but from Paul’s infectious positivity and encouragement. No more ‘winging it’, I am a creative and exploring ideas!

Once again Paul and Sarah provided a day full of information and advice. They were willing to answer any questions, and demonstrate and experiment with any different lighting techniques as requested by the delegates. Ample time was also allowed for discussion and explanation at all levels.
