Actors, musicians, comedians, personal trainers — in fact, anyone who performs or holds a public-facing role needs professional headshot photography in their corner. Whether it’s for a website, a portfolio, or a publication, personal branding photography is the hook that brings in work. It always has been.
Casting agents, producers, and event organisers have long relied on headshots to pick and choose their talent. An actor headshot photographer was once dealing almost entirely in physical prints — great stacks of them, passed around offices and pinned to boards. Now, with everything moving digital, the need for a strong, well-crafted headshot has only grown. And honestly, the creative possibilities have grown with it.

Headshots Have Many Uses
It’s not just performers who need them, either. Over the years we’ve created commercial portraits for CEOs, politicians, directors, barristers, judges, doctors, consultants, accountants, chefs, magicians, personal trainers, artists, sculptors, impressionists — and even a clown. Yes, you did read that correctly.
We’ve also created headshots for dating profiles, which has turned into one of my favourite little corners of what we do. More than a few of those clients have come back to us to photograph their weddings, which I suppose suggests we do a pretty good job of making people look their best. Personal branding photography, it turns out, can have some rather lovely side effects.
Studio, Garden, or Somewhere in Between
At the end of the day, a professional headshot is a portrait — full stop. Whether it’s destined for commercial use, a musician’s promotional photos, a dating profile, or a theatre programme, it’s still an image of a person, a face, a character. And that’s precisely why I love them so much.
Many clients come to us not just because we have a proper studio right here on site, but because the moment you step outside the door, you’re standing in one of the most beautiful gardens imaginable. It makes for a perfect backdrop when you want something with a little more of a natural feel to it. Very often we’ll begin a session outdoors — people tend to relax more easily in the open air than under studio lights, and that ease shows in the photographs.
Of course, the studio is there when you need it: controlled light, clean backgrounds, that classic look. But having both options means we can tailor the whole session to you, rather than fitting you into a formula.
