One of the things I love most about photography is that no two weeks are ever the same. Looking back through June, I’m reminded just how varied this job can be. One day we’re photographing families in the gardens outside the studio, the next we’re teaching photographers from across the country, and then we’re working on commercial commissions that we can’t quite tell you about… yet!

A Musical Month
June seemed to have a soundtrack of its own. We had the pleasure of photographing both an incredibly talented clarinettist and a wonderful tenor horn player. It’s always fascinating photographing people who are completely immersed in their craft. Whether it’s music, sport or business, there is often a quiet confidence and passion that shines through once you stop asking someone to “smile at the camera” and simply let them be themselves.

Sharing What We’ve Learned
Throughout June we welcomed photographers to the studio for a series of one-to-one Masterclasses, each tailored around their own photography and business. Watching someone’s confidence grow over the course of a day is every bit as satisfying as creating a great portrait. We also had the pleasure of hosting photographers from The Societies of Photographers for an evening workshop exploring The Language of Light. There’s something very special about watching a room full of photographers suddenly see how subtle changes in lighting can completely transform a portrait.
A few days later we swapped the studio for the streets of Oxford, spending the day hunting for beautiful light, interesting backgrounds and those little moments that make environmental portraits feel so natural. Oxford never disappoints.

Behind The Scenes
Commercial photography continues to keep us wonderfully busy. Many of the projects we’re working on are still under embargo, so I’m afraid they’ll have to stay behind the scenes for a little while longer. It’s a real privilege to be trusted with these commissions, and we’re looking forward to sharing them when the time is right.
Families, Puppies and Plenty of Smiles
Alongside the commercial work, we’ve had the opportunity to photograph some lovely families at the studio. One of the highlights was also spending time with another Hearing Dogs puppy in training. After so many years working with Hearing Dogs, these shoots never lose their appeal. Every puppy has a completely different personality, and they’re always guaranteed to make us smile.

Away from the cameras, I managed to enjoy Sarah’s birthday weekend with the family. It was the perfect chance to recharge before another busy few weeks.
Looking Ahead
As always, thank you to everyone who stepped in front of our cameras, invited us to teach, trusted us with a commercial commission or simply stopped to say hello.
Every month is different, and that’s exactly what keeps photography so exciting.
Here’s to whatever July has in store!
