Some wedding days just buzz: you arrive, and within moments, you know you’re in for something special. That was exactly the feeling as soon as we stepped into Zöe and Aan Son’s day—sunlight pouring through the windows, dresses swinging on hangers, and the unmistakable sound of belly-laughter drifting down the corridors. My kind of day.
From the soft morning light spilling into dressing rooms to the final golden sun on the lawn, the whole day was full of moments that made your heart squeeze and your shutter finger twitch. Zöe’s dress hung beautifully against the cream wood panelling (with all the lace detail singing in the soft light), while the bridesmaids’ blush-toned gowns caught that morning window glow just right.
And I don’t know who designed the suite Aan Son wore, but that pale blue was perfect against the garden greens later in the day.
It’s always a treat when you get an outdoor ceremony too. That little hush just before the music starts, a slight breeze in the bride’s veil, guests glancing toward the trees as the bride appears… it’s magic. Real, beautiful magic.
And I have to say—their crew? Hilarious. That groomsmen shot on the steps was chaos in the best way. I love it when people forget the camera’s there and just live. Friends throwing heads back in laughter, kids in oversized sun hats pulling faces, and that whole joyful confetti explosion with kids in the foreground throwing petals like they’re trying to win gold at the Olympics. Yes please.
The whole day had this rhythm—soft romantic portraits tucked away in secret gardens, mixed with spontaneous silliness on deckchairs or sneaky group shots between bubbles and beers. At one point, I turned round to see someone lounging with arms wide in a yellow deckchair, laughing at the sky like they’d just won the lottery. That is the wedding energy we want.
Honestly, one of my favourite moments was the image of Zöe beneath her veil. Quiet, still, serene. There’s something sacred about that moment of stillness before the world restarts. That, and the photo of her walking with her friends arm in arm, the sun giving them halos and lens flares. You could frame that on a wall and call it “joy”. OK, a little corny but you get my drift
Anyway, to Zöe & Aan Son—thank you. For trusting me, for laughing loudly, for choosing to get married outdoors (you brave, brilliant souls), and for surrounding yourselves with such incredible people. It was a blast from start to finish. And that is what weddings should be.
