I so love it when someone arrives in the studio and cannot wait to be photographed. Suvi was that client.
It’s always a little tricky to define exactly what a ‘headshot’ is – beyond the obvious, of course. There are so many reasons for people to need them, ranging from personal branding, corporate and business portraits, actors, musicians, authors, celebrities and, of course, dating sites. A headshot covers quite a wide range of purposes, and we’ve done pretty much everything here.
For this particular shoot, it wasn’t entirely clear what Suvi wanted; up until the moment she arrived at the studio, we didn’t really have much of a brief.
But, if I am honest, I really like it that way. I love the process of chatting with someone, looking at their individual styling, their hair, their makeup, the clothing they bring with them and, ultimately, their personality. It’s a little bit like one of those cooking programmes where the chef is given a bag of ingredients and has to make something of it. It can be a little nerve-wracking, but it does seem to bring out the best in me.
Suvi simply said that she wanted to be a part of my art. Not, it has to be said, the most detailed of briefs but exciting nonetheless! Just like Marie in our earlier blog, Suvi is a medic – but a very different style of shoot!
Once Suvi showed me her outfits, I just knew it was going to be an absolutely magical session. Each outfit showed a different side of her personality, from bubbly and street-style (I do love a hoody!) to sophisticated and formal, with rich, vibrant colours. And with each outfit switch, her body language and the way she moved changed.

The weather wasn’t kind – it rained almost throughout the session as we watched the light fading, but we still managed to get outside for a few images. We are lucky here to have both a studio and a beautiful garden (as well as the street right outside our front door). For this shoot, we used every inch of it to get a wide variety of images, showing the different sides of Suvi and her incredible outfits. We bounced between the beauty of the garden, the rawness of the street (and its puddles) and the flexibility of our studio – all of the time trying to make the best of the weather.
Working with Suvi, was just a ball – she was funny, smart, confident and beautiful. Every time we switched outfits, the energy completely changed. This was one of those perfect sessions (apart from the weather!)
