Gina: Soft Portraits In Harsh Sunlight

It’s been quite a busy weekend so far (and it’s only Saturday night!) Two new wedding bookings, a beautiful couple’s portraits at Le Manoir and, tomorrow, portraits in the studio. See? A busy weekend!

In spite of all that excitement, we’ve also been steadily working through some of the vast catalog of images we created while writing the Mastering Portrait Photography Book: we held quite a number of shoots to generate images to illustrate various aspects of portrait photography.

Gina very kindly stepped in during a particularly beautiful January day to create a mix of candidate images for the cover of the book, in particular, looking at soft portraits in harsh sunlight on a winter’s day. In the end (and this was entirely down to the editors you understand!) another image was chosen but this session created so many lovely pictures – yup, you may have noticed that Gina is very photogenic – that many did still make it into the body of the book.

It’s lovely doing sessions like this, though we were incredibly fortunate with the weather, as it’s a few hours trying different ideas and seeing what we can create.

A huge ‘thank you’ to Abbie Martin for her ever stunning makeup (absolutely love working with her!) Look out in the coming months for more shoots with Abbie – going to be a heck of a year!
