So as I’m sitting waiting for the images from a beautiful wedding we shot a week or two ago to process – even with this workhorse of a Mac, Photoshop still takes a while – I thought I’d sit and write a quick blog about this gorgeous wedding with a French twist at Caswell House in Oxfordshire.
I’ve known both Hannah and Gurval for a while (they’re part of the phenomenal Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons team) and so, as you might imagine, I was both flattered and thrilled to be asked to photograph their big day.
Caswell House is a perfect venue in any weather but, with the early autumn sun beating down on an open-air ceremony, it truly came into its own.
From the newly-restored car (Hannah’s dad is something of a genius!), the gorgeous bridal bouquets (Simon Lycett is also a genius!), the details on the table designs, the music drifting across the lawn, Richard Young confounding people with his close-hand magic and one of the most emotional ceremonies I have ever had the pleasure to photograph (favourite quote from the groom as he wiped away the tears: ‘it’s such a happy day’) has created an album that I cannot wait to finish the design work on.
It also helped, of course, that Hannah and Gurval make for wonderful subjects to be photographed. They are both engaging company and magnificently photogenic – which makes it both a lot of fun and, I have to be honest here, visually appealing! My favourite images are of the two of them in the rustic setting of the barn in the evening light where, with a little help from one the guests (thank you Csaba!) holding a remote controlled flash, we capture just a little late night magic.
